The Beatles both as a group and as individuals have been an attractive topic for dramatists,
filmmakers and playwrights for over three decades. There is something so compelling about the
Beatles story. Their friend and one-time publicist Derek Taylor once described them as "the
twentieth century's greatest romance".
That's why their story has inspired musical plays ("Beatlemania," "John, Paul, George, Ringo &
Bert"); TV movies ("Birth Of The Beatles," "Two Of Us") and of course movies ("Backbeat").
There are several feature films starring the Beatles as a group and individually; films with
musical scores drawn from the Beatles ("Across The Universe", "I Am Sam"); documentary films
("Beatles Anthology" "Imagine: John Lennon") and concert movies.
One way to celebrate John Lennon's 70th birthday this Fall is to have a John Lennon/Beatles film
festival at home - buying or renting some of the scores of DVDs offering the John and Beatles on
celluloid. This page lists some of the best films available.
